We just had a demo about piercing, Kathleen Duncan, a AAW board member did it. Seems most piercings are less than 1/8 inch thick because of problems with removing that much wood, and most use dental drills which are very high speed. Can't remember about the burrs and/or bits though.

Dennis,
Robo is correct, 1/8 or less is best, 3/16 is really pushing the envelope.

I use the 699L 1/16 shank cutter for 99% of my piercing work get them from Treeline, Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register. Using an NSK high speed carver, 300,000 rpm. Dremel's don't work all that well.

If you can get a copy of Binh  Poh's video on piercing and decoration it has a tremendous amount of info.
