I guess the answer is "no".   Wink

I have no experience with the Jet 1440 but I bought the Jet 1642 about a year ago and love it.  Its is a HUGE upgrade over the Delta 1440 in every way. I was very pleased with the initial quality of the Jet and it has been a great to turn on.  The spindle lock mechanism leaves a little to be desired but I can deal with that.

I had a friend asking about them a day or so ago. When I googled it, it came up as a Reeves drive, which is an adjustable pulley for the different speed ranges. I have only used one of the old ones, but there are a lot of comments about problems with the Reeves drive and them needing maintenance. Mostly fine tuning them, and making sure they stay running well. The variable speed lathes with converters work a lot better.

Oh.  I hadn't realized the 1440 was Reeves drive.  VS is the way to go.  I had a Reeves drive on my Delta.  It was awful.  I wouldn't do that again.  VS is better.  Way better.
