I am turning some spindles for a front porch. What would be your recommended finish/sealer since I am making them for a friend who lives in northern mn and the spindles will be outdoors 100% and exposed to the elements.

A:) Let's take roll call to see if we're all here.
B:) Well now, it could be that we are all here, then some of us aren't all there.
A:) Right, let the record show that we are here.
C:) Who?

Andrew, I would recommend a good spar varnish, not the kind you will find at the big box store. When we were living on our boat in Fla, I always used the Interlux Schooner varnish for the toe rails and cockpit coming, exposed to Fla sun 24/7-365, would crack sand and re finish every 6 mo or so.

Initial coat thinned, 3-4 top coats MINIMUM.

Oh, and make them easy to refinish Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I should have asked Ed's Q as well. If you are painting, I suspect any exterior paint will work just fine.
