Molly Winton Influence

Been busy lately so I haven't had the opportunity to post much lately.  However, about the middle of last month, my wife and I had the opportunity to do a one day hands on workshop with Molly Winton. (My wife also got to see her one day demo.). She came to Springfield, MO thanks  the Springfield, MO AAW club.  I had been thinking of trying my hand at some pyrography and this forced me  Roll Eyes to have to buy another toy tool.  The work was very informative and well worth the time and money spent for the workshop and for the Burnmaster Wood Burner.  I have attached my first efforts at pyrography embellishment.  The first one is a piece of spalted sycamore the I did a basket weave on the lip/rim of a small dish (6"W x 1 1/2"H).  The second piece is another medium sized dish that I did a basket weave on both the top and underside of the lip/rim  (7 1/2"W x 1 5/8"H).  The third picture is a trio of the mini hollow forms.  The were all turned from a piece of spalted maple.  The largest one is 2 1/2"W x 4"H.  I call them "A Sleuth of Bears."  C&C welcomed

Steve,

Molly will be up here in early February (it is good to be inside in February here...) for a week.  I will be taking a two day class with her.  I am looking forward to it.  With your posting, I am looking forward to it even more!

Great work Steve!  Those bear forms would probably sell like hotcakes up here in the northwoods of Wisconsin.

Hey Steve, sounds like you have a good time and created some nice pieces.

For those (like me) who didn't know, here is Molly Winton's website.

Beautiful work, Steve. You should submit at least one for the upcoming 2017 calendar.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Grant, I did submit The Sleuth of Bears for the calendar.  Thanks for the encouragement on that.

Steve

I LOVE the bears just perfect IMHO.

I am almost finished with a platter just like Tim Yoder did on the cosmic platter he did and I have the paints that came in Friday.

I also on Ebay finally got a camera "Cannon Powershot S2" for only $25 and it works perfect.  I now have a camera and do not have to borrow one all the time from my daughter

Steve,

I found a new inspiration for my class with Molly - Antoni Gaudí.   I will post photos of the results.  Class is in the first week of February.   Below is his rendering drawing and a photo of the actual stone carving on the side of the church of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain.  Thumbs Up

Tom,
This will be interesting to see what you do with the drawing.  Are you thinking of putting this on a turning or on a flat board?
