9.5" Plates - White Oak or Black Walnut
Dec 13th, 2016 at 11:18am

I've been asked to make several 9.5" serving plates in either white oak or black walnut. Which wood would be most durable? I've never turned white oak so I'm not sure what to recommend.

Thanks,

Jenn

If it were me, I would go with the Black Walnut.
The wood has a tighter grain and is a bit more stable when it comes to movement.
As far as durability, either one should pose no problem for use as a serving plate.
