Some lighthouses I made....
Dec 30th, 2016 at 4:36pm

Hi all, figured I'd share somethings I've been working on. I started turning about 6 months ago so I'm not great and learning and watching videos and such as often as I can. I find I'm turning though more than I'm reading up and watching. I'm always looking for new ideas to challenge me.

My lathe is a mini lathe and I'm limited to making small items but still enjoy and learning doing so.

I've made pens, bottle stoppers, small bowls, finger rings, even salt and pepper shakers. I've made mini birdhouse ornaments but lately I've been making small lighthouses for friends and family.

Attached are two pics of the most recent ones I made. The one that is lit up actually I hollowed it out and placed a small LED flashlight inside. Something different.....  The second pic is one I made today with  the cherry rough bark bottom to represent an rock island.

Comments? Critiques? Suggestions?

My tools are very cheap and nothing fancy just some standard gouges and such....

Thanks for allowing me to share.

Sal.

Hope the pics show up? Not seeing them in "preview"???

Thank you. I was going to use tea lights but the ones that are bright enough you have to twist them. I found 8 flashlights at HD for $10 and the bottoms is a push button switch. Figure it's easier to push a button than dig to remove a tea light that you have to twist the bottom to get it to light.

Very nice, Sal.

I'm assuming that you drew the horizontal lines for the brickwork while the lighthouses were spinning on the lathe, am I right?

Correct I then used a wood burner to accent them.
Thanks Thumbs Up
