Dogs

Just got a new pup (6mo lab/shep mix) who really likes to eat wood. Sticks, shavings, blanks, etc.  I want her to be able to hang out in the garage when I'm working so wondering if anyone else had a wood eater and managed to break them of the habit. Distractions like rawhides don't work, she really likes wood. lol

Find a stick that she likes and sprinkle it with cayenne pepper or coat it in tabasco.
A little discomfort but nothing terrible. Then offer her a rawhide chew.
She will most likely make the right decision.
Methods like this have been around for years and years. The recipe or product may change from one to another but the general theory is the same.
Good luck with your new shop mate.

My black lab did same thing she's teething.  Black lab still likes her sticks but leaves my bowls alone now.

The wife had a cat, bad tempered little snot. Would come up and meow to get petted and then scratch the crud out of your hand. I'll stick with the pooch, she's happy to see me any time I've been out of sight for more than five minutes Wink

Dogs chew sticks. It is what they do, especially Labs.
The trick is to keep the pop chewing on somehting that doesn't matter, like a stick.
I had a Lab that would chew the toe off of one flip flop of every pair in the house, Sticks are small time in the grand scheme of things.

Put some peanut butter on a toy, or stuff a Kong toy full of kibble, dog treats, and/or PB, and that will keep it busy for a while.
