Preparing new concrete flooring
Mar 11th, 2017 at 3:36pm

I'm moving into a new house and will have my shop in the basement. I want to prepare the concrete floor for easy clean up. What is the best plan for the floor.
Do I put Thompson water sealer down, or paint the floor with some special paint for concrete.
The idea is to make the floor easy to clean up after working with wood on the lathe, table saw, band saw and various sanders.
Thanks in advance.

You want it sealed but not too slippery.
With a thin layer of sawdust, Thompsons may be like an ice rink.
You can always get a product similar to Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register.
There are also additives and flecks to add traction.

I used Rustoleum 2 part epoxy garage floor paint. Added the nonslick additive (sand). Three years later looks like new. Prior to this being a shop it was a play room for the kids. The builder knowing that the room was to be carpeted, spray painted the walls and ceiling, coating the concrete floor in a thick mist of paint that had to be removed. Have you ever used a gas powered power washer in the house- for over fours hours? Without a floor drain? Prep is everything.
A big benifit of this system is that it really helps to keep humidity from coming up through the floor. The tools appreciate it!

Look up Master Protect 1000 by BASF.  I've used on several warehouse floors and on my shop floor 8 years ago and still holding up. I use a commercial dust mop to sweep it with.
