Finishing spalted maple

I am looking to finish some spalted maple bowls and oil lamps. I do not like a high or shiny finish - prefer natural look. I have tried a water base but not that happy with feel.

Consider Osmo hard wax oil, cures to a hard durable surface finish.

Do you want the finished bowls to be just something to look at, suitable for light handling, suitable for regular handling and occasional cleaning of finger smudges, . . .  What other types of finishes have you used for turned or flat work?
