1 1/4 by 8 works.   There were some problems in the recent past with non-nova inserts not running true.  Get the nova brand, and be sure to set the grub screw and fiber washer to lock the insert in place.

Good choice as I have several that have worked well.

A small split shot used for a fishing weight works instead of the fiber/leather washer.  A small piece of solder can be used.   Have used loctite also, but with loctite you need to warm the insert to about 150 defrees F to remove it.

The purpose is to assure friction holds the insert tight without damage to the threads which might make future removals a problem.

I have found that Home Depot's online store has Nova chucks and inserts on their website.  If you buy it thru Home Depot, they will deliver it to the store near you for free and you can pick it up there.  I did this when I purchased my Titan and an insert for my SN2.

The hole in the rim is to lock down the insert when turning in reverse.  Also good to use when heavy sanding in reverse.

Nylon thread screws are prefered by some.  Leather dot, piece of solder or a split shot fishing weight will work to avoid marring threads.  Some lathes have a smooth section of headstock there, and some have threads.  If threads, protect them from grub screw damage.
