Posts: 837 Joplin Missouri USA Gender: Rikon 70-050VS Jet 1642 EVS 2HP Robust American Beauty	Drifting Red Sands Apr 10^th, 2017 at 9:20pm This is a piece of highly figured BLM that is 10"W x 2 1/2"H. The rim has been dyed black, sanded back, then dyed red and sanded back. It has a CA finish on the rim and gold leafed on the inside of the bowl. I have titled this "Drifting Red Sands".

Overall, a very nice piece. I still have some sheets of gold from my gold leafing frames days, so i'd love to use it like you did. One more thing on my list!!

Thanks everyone for the complements. Using the black stain first and sanding it back is something that I learned from Jimmy Clewes. It really does help to accent the grain.

Ralph--the gold leafing does really help accent the whole turning. Because it is a concave surface, it does add a little more challenge than does a flat surface. I ended up putting two coats of leaf on it to get the surface to the finish I wanted.

Arlin, attached is a picture that shows the inside of the bowl and thus full view of the gold leaf.
