Lathe spindle adapters
May 21st, 2017 at 8:10am

I have a lathe with a 1 1/4" spindle and would like to be able to use a 1" chuck. Does someone make a 1 1/4" x 1" reducer adapter?

Rich,

For some reason, many expect space station precision at budget beer prices.  Machine work does not work that way.

Presuming your 1 inch chuck does not have an interchangeable replacable insert, shop for spindle adapters based on the precision needed.  You may have to call and ask about specs like runout.

If you have a little Vicmark 90, the better precision may be worth higher price.  If you have a knockoff chuck with 25 thousands runout, may not matter nearly as much.

Bestwoodtools.com has low runout spindle adapters for a higher price.

How do you know the amount of run out introduced by these adapters. I see no tolerance listing on their website. (Low run out compared to what?)

We don't know any information about the OP's lathe or chuck, so any speculation regarding run out is simply a guess.
This is after all, his first question on this forum.

Welcome Rich, the more information about your lathe (What model Laguna) and what chuck you want an adapter for can help with answering your question.
You might want to place a post in the introductions section and fill in your profile with your lathe model.
