What do you listen to while working in the shop?

QOTW: What do you listen to while working in the shop? Music, TV, talk radio, silence?

I prefer it quiet so I can hear the wood as I'm turning so I can hear of any problems before they may arise.

It just depends.  I will listen to Pandora--James Taylor, Carol King, jazz, 60's music, or I will listen to a "book-on-tape"--usually spy, murder mystery, etc.  And sometimes nothing because I have the dust collector on and wearing ear protection when I'm sanding.

Right now in the shop, it's just the fan and lathe. My radio broke. When I remember to turn it on, I listen to C&W. Like the old stuff better than this pop junk.

The sound of the machines and tools cutting wood.  My hearing tells me if things are going good or bad

I usually wear ear buds (with the wires taped behind me) and listen to light rock (Elton John & Ray Cooper, Steve Winwood, Billy Joel, Beatles, Wings, Heart,  some Eric Clapton ... - all that 70's light rock).  I have it low enough to hear the wood, and often wear ear muffs over them (especially when sanding).

I find the music allows me to focus MORE on the wood I am currently working.  I don't know why, but it also seems to help me be more creative.  Cool

I don't listen to music in the shop because I'm wearing ear plugs to protect myself from the noise from the dust collector.

I've been an audiophile for 40 years and I only really listen when I can sit down and forget about everything else for a while.

Lately, I've been listening to the sound of rain on the metal roof.
