what is the most dangerous situation that has happened to you while turning and how you could have avoided it?

Nicked 2 of my fingers on the bandsaw as  it was slowing down after shutting it off. Shocked
I should have just waited another minute till it stopped. Luckily, i only needed a regular bandaid on each finger.

The other dangerous situation was connecting with a young kid who was gathering burls out of the woods around him. He managed to do some serious damage to my wallet!!!

I did get a humongous  oak burl with some spalting thru it that is almost 5 ft long and 20 inches across by 10 to 12 inches thick!!!

So... looking at what I just posted, we can assume that both situations were self inflicted!! Smiley Smiley

PS:  Is there a way to turn off spell checking in this forum??  It's driving me crazy.

Turning an out of balanced bowl blank that was cracked. When it split apart it went to the overhead door and put a dent in it. Should not have placed blank on lathe! But I was not as smart then as I now am.

After a weeklong woodturning seminar i brought home a bucket of chisels (blades up) and put them on the shop floor.  Two days later I stumbled, pitched forward, and my right arm landed across the pail. Not one scratch. Two guardian angels fainted.

I have  a scar and reduced feeling in my left index finger from running it into a (dull) bandsaw blade while cutting bowl blanks.

I have a splinter in my left pinkie finger that I got off the edge of a rotating bowl that was too sharp. It's been in there since November of 2012(?), maybe 2013.
