Searching for pen blank
Jun 5th, 2017 at 8:19pm

I have been requested to make a pen that has a similar pattern to the second and fourth pen from the top in the attachment.  I have looked in all my woodturning catalogs and cannot find a blank that can make a pen like this.  Any suggestions?

Are you looking for a pre-made blank?
The ones pictured are not very complicated to make, depending on your skill level and tools of course.

It is quite possible those were made by cutting apart a blank and gluing a contrasting wood in between the pieces, but that is just a guess.

I was hoping pre-made blanks were available.  If not , are there any instructions or you tube videos on how to make the blanks that produces the pens shown?

Those really are simple to make. Simply take your rectangular blank, cut at the place and at the angle you like and glue in a contrasting piece. I've made many celtic knot pens, and they are done in the same manner as the ones that you are trying to do - just with more cutting and gluing.
