Cherry Burl Gloat

Here is a cherry burl that I got from a logger friend of mine. As you can see, this was a very large cherry burl and was completely on one side of the tree trunk. The first one is 4 1/2" thick and the second one (burl cap) is 6 1/2" thick. Can't wait to see what this will look like once I get it turned.

Ralph, I think I will practice my coring skills before I try and tackle these two pieces.  So, it may be awhile.  I spend yesterday sealing the pieces with hot wax.

Looks like a nice haul Ralph.  Be anxious to see the insides and what you do with it.

Nice material Steve!  I cored a large birch burl about two months ago.  I got 4 bowl blanks from the one piece.  This weekend I took the next to largest one to the lathe.  It is looking nice (will include a photo later).

Again, as I have said before, I wish we lived closer together because we do many similar thing and have similar interests.  I guess that is the point of this forum!! Shocked

Trying to get my hands on this maple, and the piece below it. I have to stand on my toes and reach as high as possible to reach the top....
