Careful what you wish for

Be careful what you wish for. When we moved to NW Wisconsin, I bemoaned the fact I was losing my sources of wood for the lathe. Last year the farmer who boards our horse & burro gave me about 8 feet each of a maple trunk and ash trunk.

Last week we had a storm go thru and the neighbors cabin had a tree top go thru their roof. When the tree crew came out I went over to get a business card in case we ever needed it. We talked about trees and wood and he asked if I would want burls (That was a duh) and if I wanted any of the wood they were taking down because the owners didn't want it.

After a full day, I finished moving 25 pieces of 12"-18" maple , 11 pieces of 10"-17" oak  & 10 18" pieces of popple (yellow birch) 18". On top of that when he called me to ask how long I wanted the wood cut (yes they even cut it to length!!), he apologized for not calling me the previous day because they took down a huge (4 foot plus diameter trunk) walnut tree. He said it was at the local forestry dump and I could get it there. If the chain saw would have cooperated I would have gotten more than the 5 pieces that are 14"-17" diameter. That and he left me 2 small burls.

I might be getting close to having enough wood to keep me busy this winter !!!  Cheesy
