Amazon has it listed at $339 with 18-55mm lens. kits with accessories are around $450. i have one that is 2 years old and takes great pictures.

You can certainly do a lot more with that type of camera than just take product shots of your flutes.
That one and similar models have a long zoom, image stabilization lots of easy pre-set modes and shoot video as well.
For good quality photos, (better than your phone) without spending $400 and up, these are quite good IMO.

IMO its has more to do with the person behind the camera than the camera in front of the person when you want good images.

Personally, I waited until I had (in my mind ) a decent grip on taking photos before I decided to upgrade equipment.

I use GIMP, which is free, but there is a learning curve. I don't know if all cameras today are equally helpful when moving pictures to the computer.
