You might be able to find large hex nuts at a good local hardware store, that will let you determine the size and thread count.

Should be 3/4-16. You can get a 3/4-16 to 1-8 adaptor so you can use most of the chucks available these days.

If your 4 jaw chuck is what I think it is, (independent jaws, made for holding metal) it is pretty much useless for woodturning anyway.
