Painted (gasp!) bowl

I donate bowls to my buddies church golf outing for raffle (it gets me invited  Wink). Since I have done this for a few years I wanted something a little different. I happened to see a YouTube video on the technique (hydro-dipping), and since I was starting with a pretty plain piece of maple I figured what the heck. Since I started late and barely got it done in time, I only have a couple poor quality cell phone shots; sorry.
This isn't my cup of tea style-wise, and I am sure many of you consider it a cardinal sin, but everyone that saw it either liked it or is very good at hiding their disgust.

Chris - I looks like a different way to "jazz-up" a bowl that may be somewhat bland.  These usually spark interest ($) especially at charity auctions.

Good going!  Thumbs Up

Sure, the one that got me thinking is by Tommy Akridge Designs, Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register. There were others, not sure if any were about turnings. Most are about auto parts, skateboards, that sort of thing. Another interesting guy is Gary Lowe Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register, who does a lot of colored (coloured, in his case) turnings, and has inspired many similar efforts.

When I read the title of your thread, I have to admit that I wasn't expecting to like the results. After I saw the bowl, I was pretty impressed, and I might have to give it a try myself!  Thumbs Up
