Tool Grinder

Saw a tool grinder at Sears, #21174, runs about $60.00 and reversible 4" wheel. Has anyone seen this or tried it out? For the small budget it looked pretty good and quite heavy. If its any good it could quite easily be attached to a base and fictured up for angles?

You will have to look at the availability of suitable grinding wheels for lathe tools.  A second concern I have is that composite grinding wheels become smaller with use as the particles are ground away.  A 4" wheel I think is going to decrease in diameter much more quickly than an 8" wheel with the same amount of use, which would change the geometry of your fixtures.

I wouldnt use a 4" wheel to sharpen lathe tools you will get to much hollow grind.  I picked up a WEN 8" slow speed grinder from home depot for under $100.  Pretty sure shipping was free as well.  Has been working great so far and came with a 120 and 80 grit wheel.

Just got a flyer from Woodcraft today. The Rikon 8" slow speed grinder is $99.00.

Thanks guys. That made up my mind on that one. I'll look at the others mentioned. At 84, good advice is well received.
