Old lathe without threads
Aug 26th, 2017 at 9:50am

I have a old craftsman lathe. It has a morse 1, but it has no threads. I cant mount chucks for bowls  or anything like that, I would really like some help to figure out what I should do.

Old Delta 12" 46-701 in great condition. Had it about 20+ years and turned 1 part.

If it has a hollow spindle you can probably get a Morse taper with a 3/4 thread on it and hold it in with a drawbar. I wouldn't trust it without the drawbar. Then you can find a small chuck to work on that.

If I understand correctly,
You lathe has a MT1 in the headstock and no threads.
You need something LIKE this but MT1 Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register
I haven't seen one in MT1, others may know where to get one.
Here is a link to a sit that deals with your type of situation,

That lathe is what we up here in Maine call a boat anchor.

So, go buy a boat AND a new lathe and double your fun!! Thumbs Up

On the second item "For cleaning purposes only" refers to not using it to contain combustion pressures in a firearm etc.
