What do you use to check wall thickness? I use the figure 8 now and have seen the Gag-it but the reviews are not so good.

I guess I am to cheap I just have us use outside calipers.  I am in the process of making a neat one but have not got to it yet.

On the cheap but practical side, a piece of wire, maybe 1/8 inch diameter ( the wire they use on the bottom of a run of the cyclone wire fences) bent into a D shape. Cut in the bottom of the D, slightly off of the flat with a 1 inch tail on the long straight side leaving the up curving side long. You want the break/cut to be rounded over and in line with each other. Mine measures about 9 high and 6 inches wide. I know I show it in one of my videos, but can't remember which one. It is a Dave Ellsworth idea. You just open or close it a bit, leaving about a space about 1/4 inch wider/thicker than what you want for wall thickness and use very light pressure to measure the walls. Curved side allows for bowls, straight side allows for deep vessels and it even works in hollow forms. Really versatile.

I use a large outside caliper now.  It is just easier with my eye sight to watch the gap between the wood and the end of one arm.
I did have a figure 8 which was OK. I soldered a 2" snip off a metal tape measure to one arm.  Made it easy to see the change against a rule compared to just two ends out in the air.  YMMV  Somebody sold some about the same but I don't know if they still do.
