Total newbie here, I picked up a working Atlas 7122 with tools and accessories for a great price $150

I was wondering if any of the Atlas metal lathes have interchangeable parts. The ram lock and adjustment wheels on tail stock.

Watched some you tube vids on beginning projects and made some spinning tops and malets.

Really enjoy playing around with this and looking forward to learning more about turning.

Some videos on the Internet may show unsafe procedures.  Those posted on this web site have been checked so you can watch them without concern.  I also heartily recommend books and videos by Richard Raffan.  I have watched them, and re-read parts of the books, any number of times so they are not just a watch-once read-once materials.  Some others here will let you know their favorites.

A local woodturning group can be an invaluable resource, because they will include some or many experienced turners who can serve as mentors and instructors, as well as an opportunity to try different tools before buying.  You can search on the Internet for a local turning group, and I understand you can find on the American Association of Woodturners website a list of affiliated turning groups.

Thanks for the information, I did get a small nova chuck and adapter, as well as a  drill chuck.

I am keeping an eye out on e-bay and craigslist for additional accessories & parts.

I ordered a few salt and pepper shaker kits and am going to give them a shot.

Being recently retired, this looks like it will fill a void and give me great enjoyment.

Funny you should use the word "void"
Around here, woodturning is often refereed to as the vortex. Easy to get drawn into and almost impossible to escape from.
