Bought this blank at the local woodworkers store from the bargain bin.  It was marked "BRW" but no one in the store knew what it meant.  After I got home I wondered about Brazilian Rosewood but I think that is currently illegal.  Also now that I have gotten into it I don't think it looks like rosewood.  Smells kind of fruity while turning.  Anyone know what this might be?  It has one coat of Danish Oil on it in the pics.

The BRW mark may have something to do with an annotation (weight restrictions) to imported rosewood.
First guess, Kingwood
Second guess Tulipwood

My gut response was Black and White Ebony but that is only a guess.  Kingwood is also a good guess.  It's pretty wehat ever it is.

I'm thinking it may be bocote.  Kingwood also appears as a possibility.  I don't think it's the black and white ebony but I sure would like to find some of that.  I'm going back to the store tomorrow to see if they have any left.

BRW- my guess is black, red, white  as a general wood marking acronym. Very nice looking piece for sure.

Bocote is another good guess.  Didn't think of that one right off.

Ok I went back today to get another piece and asked again if anyone knew what it was and they did not.  I looked around and saw a larger blank on the normal price shelf that looked just like the 4"x4"x2" blanks in the bargain bin that was labeled Guatemalan Mora.  The sales guy said that it probably was Mora but they don't normally put it in bargain bin so that's why he wasn't sure what it was.  Anyway, I bought another because it's pretty good looking for $5.  Thanks for the responses.
