Getting to enjoy stave bowl turning. This is walnut and jatoba. Finished with danish oil and lacquer. Buffed using Beall system.
Comments welcome.

Nice! I like that. Could you give us a bit more information please? Size of bowl, number of wedges, size of wedges?
Thanks, Ed

The bowl measures 4-1/2" H X 11" W. It has three rings of 16 segments each. The middle ring consists of 4" long staves with 1/8" walnut between.
I will include pictures of the sled I used plus a copy of the cut list that is produced by The Segmented Project Planner. This is software produced by Bill Kandler which gives me all the necessary measurements including the angle settings for the compound cut of the staves.
I apologize for the crude illustration of the sled. The key observations here is the adjustable miter fence, the setting of 90 degrees for the stop block and the use of a cutoff to set position for the second cut of each stave.
I used a Wixey angle gauge and a digital protractor to set the angles of the blade and the miter fence respectively.
I have found that this setup works well for me. I am sure it can be improved on and would be interested in any comments.

Thanks, Bruce
When you have time I'd appreciate a picture of the bowl showing the rim where the middle and upper rings flow together.

Ed,
Not quite sure if this is what you were looking for. The process I used was to first make the stave section, including turning it round. Then I measured for the top and bottom rings. I made them larger than necessary because I wanted to be able to cut back to the actual design I was after.
The top ring is simply end grain glued to side grain. The bottom ring is mortised into the bottom of the stave ring. So, there is still some end grain to side grain gluing but is fortified by the mortise and tenon.
I hope these help.
