Spindle head adapter
Nov 20th, 2017 at 11:52am

My lathe has a 1" x 10 tpi spindle thread, I am looking for an
adapter to go to 1" x 8 tpi

Been searching the net without much luck, can anyone point me to a site where I can purchase one.

Old Delta 12" 46-701 in great condition. Had it about 20+ years and turned 1 part.

Hi Lou. American National coarse thread is 1"-8,  National Fine is 1"-12, and National Standard is 1"-14.
I would doubt that it is 1"-10 unless its a Metric that falls near that. How did you measure the pitch? It would have to be .100 to be ten threads per inch?
Geo.

I stand corrected. Looking at Ed's chart I see they actually make an adapter like that. Sorry about that,Geo.

Lou, I don't know if that's the best price I just knew they had them.

George, if there is one thing I know about turning, nothing is "standard" or follows National guidelines. It seems like in the early days, no one could agree so we ended up with every size under the son, sometimes on the same machine. Undecided

You will not be sorry you ordered the Best. They make very good stuff. Cheap as I am I still appreciate the dead nuts on converter I got from them.   I use it with a 6" 3 jaw chuck for drilling and appreciate the fact that it runs true and the surface is smooth enough not to be prone to rusting.

Lou, have you checked to see, what it would cost to have one made at a local machine shop? Sometimes it can be cheaper to go that way, not often, but sometimes.
