I'm curious what people's preferences are for finishing wood turnings out of burls?

Same finish that I use for bowls.  Pratt & Lambert 38 alkyd varnish thinned 50-50 with mineral spirits and applied as a wiping varnish.  If necessary an acid brush to reach into small voids.

I use the Dr.'s finish of walnut oil, shellac, & Carnauba wax mix.

Wipe a coat on and let set for a few minutes and then rub at high speed to heat the wax, let cool and repeat till i get  the finish I want.. usually 4 or 5 coats works for me.

I don't like shiny finishes so this works for me. I also then put on a final coat of butchers wax.

So, i guess the real answer is use whatever you want.

I like high gloss on certain items. If the burl has beautiful color and you want a high gloss I use
Rattle can sanding sealer two coats, let dry, cut with 0000 Steel Wool. Lacquer, Lacquer thinner 50/50.
Spray as many coats as need to get the gloss you wish.
