literature or tutorials

Hello all, I have finally tried this segmented turning and think I will really enjoy it.  I was wondering when you guys started doing it did you have books or any sort of aids to help with layout and ring size, etc.  I don't want to waste time, money on materials without learning as much as I can about it.  Any help or information would be great.

Here are a couple of links

You really don't need anything fancy at all to get started. The further you get into it the more you can build/buy but it's not necessary.
A miter saw or a tablesaw and sled is really all you need.
Flattening rings can be done on the lathe (drum sander is preferred)
What type of vessels are you looking into making, plates, platters, bowls, vases?

Good morning Keith,
There are several really good book on segmented turning. I have a copy of most of them. The one that I use the most is “The Art of Segmented Wood Turning” by Malcolm Tibbetts.

Take a look at the videos on dennyedwards.com. Denny goes into great detail on planning his pieces, then on cutting segments and glue ups.

I started segmenting in the mid to late 80's after reading an article in a magazine.  Cant remember which one but Mechanic Illustrated comes to mind.  Had to figure out a lot of it on my own.

I use Malcolm Tibbetts book a lot “ The Art of Segmented Turning.”  It provides a lot of really helpful information and tables in the back for angles etc.
