Bowl Design Question

Hi all,

I was wondering if I could get some opinions into how I should alter a bowl I'm making. I'm working on a piece of spalted maple and I've turned it with a bit of an overhang. I finished up the inside of the bowl last night and was ready to trim the spigot off when I ran into this mental roadblock.

Here's my issue. I just don't like how the top looks, specifically the detail right at the edge of the rim. I'd like to know how people think I should "fix" it?

I've included a bit of a sketch with two ideas I'm considering:
Option A - Sharpening of the top curve to then tie into the thinnest part of the existing rim.
Option B - Trimming the detail I don't like clean off, transitioning into the inside curve.

Am I making any sense? Is there a third option which I haven't thought of?

Any help is appreciated.

Glad I clicked the drawing, I didn't notice that you had shown the two options until I enlarged the drawing.

The bowl shape and the spalting are each pretty dramatic (and attractive) so I guess the questions for you is do you need the extra rim detailing - is it complimenting or competing with the shape and spalt?

Welcome to the forum. Regardless of your level of experience and expertise there likely are benefits here for you, and us as well.

My picture is not very good but you should get the idea. Beautiful wood on that bowl. Pic should be rotated 90 right. It is not a swan

Don, I think you may have hit the nail on the head with regards to the detail not really complimenting the shape or figure. I like that detail, Daniel. I might try that on the next one, possibly a more plain piece of wood. Thanks

Option A lends itself well to a recessed lid. If you're not going to have a lid then it doesn't really go well with the design, so then it would be Option B.
