What Do You Listen To While Turning?

Qotw: What Do You Listen To While Working In The Studio? Music, Tv, Talk Radio, Silence.

I prefer listening to the wood, I can hear not cutting properly or if I'm starting to get to thin. I can hear a problem before it happens.

I listen to everything.
The sound of the tools, the cutting of the wood and music.

I listen to music that helps stimulate creative thoughts and puts me at ease.  It is always quiet so that I can hear my surroundings.... however, when my bride quietly enters the garage ..I mean "Studio" (lol Grin)... she blinks the overhead lights to let me know she is there.  Since I use lights on my lathe, it doesn't startle me nor does it leave me in the dark.

on the weekends, at times, I switch it up and at times listen to talk radio (Clark Howard, Jill Schlesinger or Dr. Michio Kaku).

PS - Music, I think, helps me keep track of how long I am in the VORTEX.. Cheesy Wink

Since the radio broke, all I listen to is the music of my lathe.

For my wife letting me know she's there, she calls out my name then waits for me to give my attention to her.

I normally listen to NPR/Classical music.

We have a ships bell by the door to the shop, two of our lathes face away from the door, always ring the bell before entering is one of us is working on either of those lathes.

Talk radio, and music.  But never louder than my lathe. I like to hear the wood.  I like background noise  when i'm taking a break, or finishing a bowl.

I listen to Pandora--usually a variety of music from James Taylor; Carol King; Fleetwood Mac; Peter, Paul & Mary; Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young---am I showing my age  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Usually one or both of us (my wife and I) are in the shop.  If it is just one of us and the other enters to talk to the other, we usually will wait until their is a break in the action before we talk so as not to interrupt the chain of concentration.

Depends, sometimes I just listen to the machine, gouges working on the wood--love that sound.  Other times I listen to everything from Alabama to ZZ Top.

Everyday liberating nice things from ordinary chunks of wood---and I like gnarly wood, the outcome is nearly always better than the start.

Usually classic rock and roll and sometimes a ball game but always at a volume below the sound of the lathe.

Steve,  That sounds like my playlist.  Depending on the mood I might add some classical or Sinatra.
