Sorby Large Bowl Turning
Feb 25th, 2018 at 12:41pm

Hi, I am on a mission to find a Sorby large bowl turning extension arm. Sadly these items are now no longer made and I missed the chance to buy one when I first bought my lathe (many years ago now).
If anyone knows where one can be found, or if anyone has one and can provide size specs to enable me to make one I would appreciate it.
Look forward to a reply in hope, but not expectation.
John

There are a number of 'outboard' set ups for large bowl turning. Most involve a post all the way to the floor and a support arm over to the lathe. That type of arm set up with the Sorby set up used to have vibration problems. I think Powermatic makes one, and the VB36 lathe has another version. Not sure if Oneway and Robust make them or not. Vicmark may make one as well...

The outboard turning arm looks a fair bit like the one for Recordpowers' older style Coronet 3.They both have the solid round bars for the ways, record's are 1 1/2" dia. on 4" center. Good luck
