Mike,

Good to know. In the Mid-Hudson Valley, I have the same luxury.

I will make note that the western part of the state has, among its other charms, the John C Campbell Folk School, if you are interested in taking classes.

If there are any towns that tourists flock to for artisan products, might be worth visiting the town to see how costly it would be to locate there and have a regular venue for those tourists.  I always used to hear for example that people would visit Berea KY to find well made artisan products.  I don't know if it still attracts shoppers or how expensive an artisan studio would be (if any are available) and what current zoning allows.

Old Delta 12" 46-701 in great condition. Had it about 20+ years and turned 1 part.

Berea Ky. has a huge craft school in town and advertises with large showrooms right on I75 north. Lots of turned items. Similar is Cherokee NC. although more into Native American crafts but a well visited town to set up a shop/showroom in. Been to both places many times. Cherokee draws all of the Smoky Mountain natl. park crowd as does Berea for Northerners on their way home. One turner in Berea is famous for his wood turned Fedora Hats.

I forgot to get the AAW club near you, but I had a thought along the way about you moving.

The question I have is Do you not like NY or just do not like the Job?

If it is neither then you can just take a trip once a year with a U-Haul and have friends save wood for you and or know where to pick it up and then bring it all back home.

Like I said just thinking.

I love my job. I just don't need to be here to do it. A more affordable location would better serve my needs.

Another place to look for wood is a saw mill. The mill throws away large chunks of wood that would be suitable for turning. They put this wood in a pile to burn.

I’ll second this, my neighbor down the road has a 24’ porta mill and he gives me all of his butt cuts and even a few root balls when he gets them. I also buy some of his live edge cuts for flat work that sell very well as signs. Works great for both of us he doesn’t have a burn pile and I get cheap wood.
