PSI 12" Turncrafter Commander

Buffing Wheel storage

Looking for suggestions - - -

I have a set of three buffing wheels. In my case, each wheel is mounted to a block of wood that threads onto the spindle of my lathe. Presently, I'm storing the three wheels, along with the bars of tripoli, white diamond and carnauba, in plastic bag from Homer's. The bag sits on a shelf, and that approach does protect the wheels from dust, but Homer's bags are chintzy and will split open if you look at them wrong.

Looking for suggestions for a better and more secuire way to store them. Something to keep shop dust from collecting on them, and also something is a step up in quality/style from the Homer's bag.

Where each blade, or buffing wheel in your case, has it's own drawer to sit in.

They are roughly 6 inch cubes and can hold my 8" wheel, 4" wheel and 4" bowl bluff plus the compound stick all together.

My wife is the queen of zip lock bags, so we have lots of them around the house. Next best idea is some kind of plastic container - perhaps old tupperware pie containers. Wife has decided that tupperware is dangerous because it's plastic, and we have to switch to glass for storage.

Glass in the kitchen, plastic in the shop.

Currently I have mine in three serrate what they usually call "shoe box" containers.
I get them from the BORG, they are about a buck a piece. Great for lots of things around the shop.

Closing the loop - I dropped into a nearby surplus outlet store (kinda like a dollar store on steroids) to check out their options. Found some large semi-disposable food storage containers (a totally unknown brand) that sold for two for $2.59. Each box is large enough to hold three wheels and the companion compound/wax stick. Price was right for the application.

My shop is combined wood and metal and getting any swarf on a buffing wheel could ruin a wood turning. My wife bought some heavy duty Zip loc bags from Ikea that should do the job. The compounds are already in a clip loc food container.

They are available in a multitude of sizes, last a very long time, and are inexpensive. A step down would be a cardboard gift box, again available in different sizes.
