Vortex bowl (Read 750 times)

I've had the blank glued for for a few years. It's made up of bloodwood, walnut, maple, oak and mahogany. Comments/critiques welcome.

Arlin: Unfortunately, I didn't take pics when I glued up the boards. I did two glue ups more than a year ago and cut this one a couple of weeks ago. Typically, I scrounge for scraps at my friend's woodworking shop and when I get enough to make a block big enough, I glue it up. I don't fixate on colours or widths. I do make sure that the board is concentric around the center strip, and that I have enough of one of the species to do a segmented ring for the top and a solid piece for the bottom. Before I do the glue up, I have a plan of the final piece, so that I know how many boards I will need to re-saw out of the glued up block.

I'm sorry that I don't have pics to help explain the process better, but there are quite a few videos online showing the entire process. I highly recommend Tom Lohman's site, segmentedturning.org to see a video on the process. I followed Tom's process pretty closely.

It is about 8.5 inches in diameter at the rim, 2.5" at the base and about 5 inches tall. I don't have an inside pic of this one, but I'm attaching an inside pic of the one that I did previously with the same blank setup. The bowl was very similar, with somewhat straighter sides.
