Metal spinning interetsed in thoughts

Good morning all. I have just gotten metal spinning tools and a bunch of blanks. It was all free. Wondered if anyone has done it?
I have seen a lot of pieces,  including a great bell with wooden turned handle. Just interested in groups impute.
Thanks

Always wanted to try this but didn't have a lathe capable of slow speeds.  Now I have a lathe but haven't gotten around to it.  A few years ago the turning club i belong to toured a small company that did spinning.  They had a contract to spin the interior liner for funeral urns.  Interesting tour. Really small shop. Three employees if I remember correctly.

There used to be more kits available from woodworking suppliers but they seem to have gotten away from them. I don't know if they didn't sell well or what the reason was.
Here is a place that specializes in metal spinning and has all the starter kits, tools, metal, etc.

Steve
I have looked at a couple of short video's and it is interesting but have never tried it.  Terry Tynan is supposed to have some good vid's but I haven't seen them(yet).
Safety wise I think it really wise for a newbie to take some lessons from someone who really knows what they are doing. Something about a thin piece of metal spinning towards you and the slicing it could do to your hands/fingers is a bit unsettling.
Good luck and be safe!

had a demo in high school thought it was interesting. Never tried it myself. The trick was to keep the metal warm enough to flow but cool enough to not melt.

Must keep out of flight path. Smiley
