Hello From New England
May 23rd, 2018 at 9:36pm

Hello everybody, my name is Dylan and I just joined this forum to get some advice and tips on wood turning. I am very new to this but I was a CNC Machinist for 27 years before I got sick and had to stop working.

My kids bought me a small mini lathe made by Central Machinery to take my mind of my life and keep me busy. A 10x18 wood lathe, so far it has been a lot of fun. I started out by making pens but I'm bored now and want to start turning bowls and things. I'm finding very quickly that it's not that easy at all!

So I'm sure you will see me around asking questions. Hopefully I can contribute to this community and have some fun. Thank you and take care.

Dylan

New England covers alot of ground!!

I'm in Maine.

Maybe a little more specific so we can point you to a woodturning group.

5 1/4 states (sorry Rhode Island) one football team.
How big can it be? Grin

All kidding aside, there seem to be plenty of clubs in the New England states With any luck, one may be close to you if that sort of thing interests you.

Oh.. one of THOSE!!! Shocked Grin Grin

See, I don't consider ANY of those "other" states to really be New England.  Only Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont should be called New England... but, that's just me. Smiley Smiley

Welcome aboard, flatlander!!

Too bad tho, we have a really nice group up here in Bangor.  Smiley

Welcome, Dylan. I'm a Canuck, so I don't get into the "where's New England" conversations. Smiley

You should be able to do all kinds of pieces on that lathe beyond pens and other spindles. Have fun and post pics.
