Making Handle for Termite Hollowing tool
Aug 31st, 2018 at 4:28am

I had an unused gift card so I wanted to try the termite hollowing tool for endgrain. Didnt want to spend a lot...So I ordered the replacement tip....The tip has a 1/4" shaft with a flat like for a set screw. The little shaft is 5/8" long... With something this small what is the best way to make the handle?Im thinking grabbing a piece of metal and boring a 1/4" hole and and drilling and tapping a hole for a screw....Any ideas appreciated!

This is how they are held, no need to reinvent anything.
I have one and the tip stays securely in place.

There are also three different sized tips and a sharpening kit available.
You can also buy the shank by itself

I found a piece of scrap round stock in my shop and made a bar for it.It will fit another of my other handles.

I’ve used socket set screws for some of my tools but some commercially available tools have the cutters held in place with super glue. If you want to remove them for any reason just apply some heat.
