I think the question of the week has run its course and should be dropped.  I know you reached the right decision on posting pic of completed work.  You might look at the discussion categories and if not used much combined with another category.

I enjoy the premise but recognize the difficulty of finding a fresh subject every week. Keep the title but drop the schedule and wait for inspiration.

What I'd like to know is what has happened to the "older" members? It seems that there is much less activity across the whole forum. I know that there was not enough participation to continue the  Calendar, Swaps, Featured artist. What happened to the membership drive? The fund raiser?

Glenn, all I can say is there is a lot less activity across many forums, not only here.

Probably because of the amount of other forums and social media. Saturated.  This site is one of the first I check every day. Some great advice and a source of ideas. What would I change? Really, not anything, maybe the color scheme, but not the content.

Thanks for feed back on my questions. This is the only forum I track. Though I'm on fbook, don't even follow my family.  This forum/ website is too important to me to want to see it go away, change yes.

Maybe it's me.  I still have trouble uploading pics.  Way easier on other forums I visit.
Would rather have pics, for work  on the same area and not have to log in some place else.

The problem for me is that I have to use software to reduce the image size to comply with the forums limit and the quality suffers dreadfully. I don’t have to do this on most other forums and the pictures look much better.

As always I will make sure the others are aware of your concerns if they aren't already.

Please consider the following,
Most every forum does have a size limit unique to their needs and software capabilities. It's possible that you just may not have ever exceeded it. These size limits are there for many valid reasons, not just to irritate the members
The only forums that I am aware of that have no size limit are photography forums, for obvious reasons.
IMO
Image resizing software does have a certain amount of clarity loss but nothing "dreadful" as you say. Not all resizing software is the same in terms of how they go about interpreting and resizing the image, thus there are different qualities of out comes.
The attached photo is 38.2 KB
It started out at 8.34 MB

I'm with David.  I don't like logging into another "site" to see pictures of finished work.  When I was more active on the forum that was a real nice thing.  You saw peoples finished work and could make comment or ask questions of how they did something.

I also would like to see the picture size change.  If you could pick a pixel size (say largest size 1920) it would make it easier and simpler.  Also, with it being only 200KB, once you click on the picture to get a better view, the enlarged picture is the same size or just a little bigger and really doesn't help.

Thanks for asking Ed.

For those who didn't read on the other thread.
We no longer ask that you place your photos of finished works in the gallery. You can place them here within your posts but keep in mind, the gallery photos are higher resolution, searchable and last indefinitely.
I would also remind everyone that the 200k size limit is also there for a reason as I mentioned earlier.
The 200 KB rule basically states,
Most web developers tend to agree that 200 KB is the maximum file size for an image to be published online. This figure has been arrived at by combining several factors like the average dimensions of images, format, number of images per page, the internet connection speed and many other parameters.

Feel free to do an internet search for the 200k rule in website development.

My simple example above shoes that this is not the case.
There are many different factors that get confused from time to time.
Image size and/or aspect ratio have nothing to do with their file size.

I post this to illustrate that photo size (1920 x 1280)
AND
File size, (181kb) are not the same thing

Original size of this photo was 3.95Mb

If you want to know more about reducing image file size without reducing the visible size you can just ask. There are many online resources and downloadable freeware that will work.
Even if we are able to raise the maximum file size limit, will it ever be enough?
Smart phone cameras and DSLR's take large file size images and I don't see that changing, it's certainly not getting smaller. Server storage and page loading will always be a factor when posting photos regardless of the site.

We will try to find a solution that everyone is satisfied with.

Ed, you didn't have to take a selfie to prove your point.  A nice landscape or a picture of a turning would have been proof enough for most of us Grin Grin Grin

I know,  Grin This is why we ask for member input.
It seems at times there is less conversation and more just question and answer. We would always like to know Why or how someone goes about their particular subject so that all the members can benefit.
Remember, anyone can ask anything at anytime.
