Whats the best way to apply CA to a turned wooden pen? I have watched a lot of videos on it but see a lot of different methods used.

I have found that I like the BLO/CA combo method.  This is the video that I basically follow.

Thanks on that Daniel, I like that one. Shine is good enough for me and no after application sanding like some of the videos. I'll try it on the next pen. Smiley

At Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register there are always spirited discussion about whether to use CA finish, how to apply CA, which brand(s) of CA to use, . . .

After all, ask 10 turners a question and expect 11 different answers.

If your going to do it, I would agree with Daniel and use the BLO/CA method.
Personally I don't like the feel when it's done, no different than a plastic pen.
Just my 2 cents

Ed, I certainly understand what you are saying.  My first few pens I did a typical wood finish on (friction polish) and I liked them but after I tried the CA/BLO everyone else seemed to prefer the shine of the CA.  Just like most of my friends are more impressed with my acrylic pens than my wood ones.  It does seem like the CA will be more durable for something that is handled so often.

Some folks have gone over to using a Melamine finish instead of superglue. Not tried it myself yet but pens I’ve seen finished with it looked good.

Smiley, People do tend to gravitate towards shiny things. You gotta give the people what they want.
