Taking up a new Hobbie after years of dabbling in cabinet making and some furniture. A friend has been  making Christmas ornaments and I’m thinking I’d like to try something new....thus

Let me welcome you to the forum. Do not be shy about asking questions. We love to give direction and opinions. When you decide on size of lathe, ask for opinions of the different brands. Someone on here probably has it or has used it.

Welcome from a fellow northerner (Maine) and a fellow newbie to woodturning.    I'm learned a lot from the brief time that I've been reading the WR forum and I'm sure that you will as well.

I’ve never appreciated the craftsmanship that goes into some of those nice “Craft Show” bowls and vessels till now. As a result, a lathe has never graced my garage/workshop. Thinking of all those opportunity's over the years to pick up a used lathe at auctions or yard sales, and now they are none existant. My luck! Im waiting for delivery of a Craftex mini, only other option was a King, both made in Western Pacific area. Some of my research suggest a Craftex lathe is similar to a Grissley lathe. Anyway that’s where I’m at thus far, watching YouTube videos and WT forums.
