I have no complaints about my Ashley Iles scraper, but perhaps a Thompson scraper would be easier to source in the USA, and you can't go wrong with Doug's steel quality.

Take a look at my video, in the video section here, or on You Tube, titled 'Scary Scrapers'. I think size is over rated with scrapers. I hope to have a Negative Rake Scrapers video out later this year...

For the inside of my turned lidded boxes I have to use my smaller scraper, which I think is 3/4" wide.

Anthony, birthdays are very important and a great reason to buy tools. Maybe more than two.   Smiley

For tools, I don't think you can beat Thompson or D Way. Jimmy Allen, who bought D Way, makes a bunch of specialized smaller scrapers just for boxes.... Great box tool rests and handles too...

The number of tools you can buy on your birthday is in direct relation to your age. Smiley

30's..3 tools

40's..4 tools.

etc..

2 more years  I get to buy 7 tools!!! Shocked

I like Packard's 1/2" thick 'extra heavy duty' round nose scraper...I went with the theory of 'more mass' equals less vibration.  Yes...there are better steels out there but it's served me well and it's quite affordable.
