VFD over-current shutdowns are usually caused by mechanical load. Do your spindle and motor bearings spin freely? Test them right after tripping the VFD on over-current.

A member that has experience with small electronic parts took the drive home.  He is finding some bad connections in the heat sink (I think that is what he said) and is in the process of repairing.  He will bring it back soon so we can discover if the problem has been resolved.

The mystery continues.

Update and final solution:

After much research it was determined the VFD was the problem. This involved swapping motors from one of the other identical Jets we have in the shop.

The member with electrical experience - he ran a camera repair shop - found a VFD on Ebay for $300 and ordered it.

Our club is only open Monday and Thursday but two members came in Friday, installed the new VFD and programmed it by comparing the other VFDs.

As of this morning all is working perfectly and the lathe is in use.

Our club has about 80 members and the breadth of expertise is impressive. So happy that this is working again and happy to share with all of you.
