Had a little drop in this morning.
Why is it that birds can fly in somewhere but can never seem to find their way back out without the help of a broom?

At my job we have a metal building with a peak vent that we open in the warm months.  Little birds always find there way in through it but never there way out through it.  We know there in there when they leave there mark on the floor in the morning.  Have to open the big overhead door to get them out.

It gets pretty crazy when a hummingbird comes in. Very hard to get one out. Turn out the lights, open all the doors and then leave.  Hope they find the way out.  They usually do.

I open the door in the morning to air out the shop and get the cool morning air.
Leaving the door open or having to open it to let out a bird ticks me off as the shop heats up.
I love birds, just not in the shop

Cool air???

In Wilton, CA??

I google earthed it and i can see how you could get a morning sea breeze. Grin Grin

PS: It got down to barely 50º last nite and the breeze was coming in off the bay across the fields.

Time to pull the snow blower out and see if  it still runs!! Shocked

Normally, (whatever the heck that means anymore) we get a cool Delta breeze in the morning, then it heats up about 35 degrees throughout the day and starts cooling down again over night.
With Mother Nature being in a mood lately, all bets are off.
First we had a week to 10 days over 100-108 degrees with very little cooling (20 degrees) overnight. Immediately followed by a week of air quality above 150 AQI.
The first really cool morning that didn't smell like smoke and the feathered rat flew in, I wasn't happy with him at all.

Had a different visitor a couple weeks ago.  I had to leave and went to close the small walk in garage door.  It is often open for some air circulation.  It would not close so I slammed it a little harder.  No luck.  So I opened it wider only to find about 2 foot of the tail end of a large bull snake. So I left the door open and I have not seen or smelled him again.

Bull snakes smell?

Did you actually chop off 2' with the door?

Again, bored minds want to know. Smiley

Thankfully none of those things, I got no use for them.
We have security cams and each morning we see who came to visit overnight. Was it the opossum, the skunk, the more rare racoon or any number of farm cats that stroll by. We have about 1/2 a dozen regulars and a few more that drop by unannounced.

I won't go into what's in the back yard

No Ralph, I did not chop him into 2 pieces, but thought I may have done enough damage that it would get under something and die.  Then it would smell.  I can often smell rattlers but have not seen a live one for many years

More mild summer here than normal, mid 80's during the day, and 45 to 50 or so at night. I open up the windows in the shop and put fans in to keep the shop cool. The other night, I almost fell over because a skunk must have been right outside the window when I opened it... Smell gone by the next morning... I just don't want any yellow jackets in the shop...

When we lived in Montana, we had a tall 2 story house with 2 fireplaces and 2 chimneys.  They had caps on them to keep the rain out, but the wire mesh to keep birds out had deteriorated.

Occasionally we'd hear a bird flapping around in the fireplace behind the glass screen.  One night we heard a flapping and when I opened the screen, out flew a bat.  Then things got interesting.

He was scared, my wife and kids were loud, and he did what bats do - he headed to the highest point he could find which was on the top of the rock face of the other fireplace which went to the true roof.

Not to be out foxed by a bat, I did the only thing I could.  I armed my wife with a broom and I grabbed the kids' Super Soaker.  A few sprays with the water gun and down he came to the floor.  We trapped him with the broom and I lifted it up - gingerly - and grabbed his wings and headed to the front door about 10' away.  I released him and he flew away.

I'm sure he had a story to tell when he got home, too.

once it's   at sunset      turn off all lights in shop. Leave door open,  they fly towards the light coming in from the door. Few hours later they should be gone.

Over the years, the best I have found for bats was a tennis racquet, if you happen to have one
First you whack em, then you scoop em', then you toss em'. all with the same tool.
