What would you do?

I have turned another maple platter and beaded it with intentions of doing a basket illusion pattern.  However, the platter has about a 1" band of a darker color grain running across it, not through the center.  The designs I was planning to do are symmetric.  What would you do?  Would you go ahead as planned, even though the dark bank will surely show or would you try to make some kind of design that would incorporate the dark band?

I would incorporate it into the overall design.

If possible, make another swipe of dark beads in another direction.

How about tracing the platter showing the streak and then you can play with it on paper till you have the solution.

You might end up with something  completely different than what you were planning. Smiley

The illusion platters I have made I only beaded the rim.  I made rim about 1/3 of the diameter.  If you do something like that a dark streak would not make much difference.  I have done maple bowls that  had some dark areas and it not detract from the looks.

I've not tried it, but would two part wood bleach remove some of that stain?

I see a strip of land between a small pond and the ocean.

How about coloring the beads to make clouds in the sky which is above the center of the platter.

Create a horizon line around that area.

Make the sky beads blue with those clouds.

Ralph, I recognize the horizon line too and it does suggest water below the horizon.

I was still hoping to do a geometric design but if that band is too strong, I don't think it will work well.

Yeah.. i also don't think a geometric design would work very well.

I would love to see  a scenic look.

This is one of those out of the box moments.

Go for it!!! Smiley Smiley

I like Ralph's idea. Make an art piece.
