Resin casting?

Anybody try this? Is it worth putzin with modifying the HarborFreight paint tank or springing for the Cal Air Tools version? Lots of questions.

I ask because the final features are really cool. Also have lots of cracked, gnarly, highly figured pieces that just aren't turnable unless filled, and this seems like a nice option.

I use resin all the time. Look in TPT for some tips. First thing is to make sure wood is dry. As in baked dry. Buy resin by the gallon. Use acrylic paint or dies to color. Want a good scale to measure resin. Can add metal flake to make things sparkle.
Good luck!

TPT??  Is that the tips section?  I did a search and found nothing.  Was first wondering about the vessel and hardware needed.

Many use this after modifying with about $10+ more fittings.

Or, is it worth it to just use some like this:

That is what I use and I think it is worth the money. It is bigger than the HF paint pot and made for the job. I just recently got mine when my local Woodcraft had them for 25% off. Had been borrowing a friends modified paint pot prior.

Does anybody else have pics of their work or suggestions?

Glenn, thanks for the "....make sure wood is dry. As in baked dry. Buy resin by the gallon...." suggestion.  That's very helpful.

Looking for more tips...and thanks to all for your inputs    Thumbs Up

I modified the HF paint pot. I bought fittings from a big box store. Used a 1/2 thick plexiglass round for the cover, drilled and pipe tapped for fittings. Want an intake and a relief with valves on both and a vacuum gauge. Might have cost around $50 total.
If stabilizing use Catus Juice Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register
