Have you ever thought of making one from wood?

Check out Brian Proctor on youtube. I am just finishing mine and I quite like it but I have only done a quick test run. I made mine out of oak and it has bearings in the articulating joints so it is nice and smooth.

Joe,
I'm in the same shopping boat as Bruce.  Only problem I have with the Simple Wood Turning system is that it only goes to 5/8 tool shaft.  If you wanted to extend further and use a 3/4, it would have to be turned with a 5/8 shank, which now blows out the cost savings.
