What's on your workbench today?

We wanted to start a new thread about new and current projects. Hopefully this will lead to further discussions and more in depth threads, as I'm sure other members will be interested in what's on your workbench.

So I'll start us off.
I don't have any turning projects currently underway,  Embarrassed
What's on the bench is a mallet that needs to be mortised out and fit to the handle and yesterday I acquired a Skil HD77 7-1/4IN WORM DRIVE CIRCULAR SAW that's in need of a good cleaning and once over, not to mention a new cord.

Man.. I wish I had the free time for things like that.. or anything for that matter.

I'm STILL in here 7 days a week trying to catch up on the work overload so I might have a couple weekends off.

I've cut it in half but still at over 40 pieces to do.

I have a really nice cherry slab for a countertop for the kitchen island that needs to be finished and then installed.

THAT is what is on my workbench today, and tomorrow and... Shocked

Not on the bench yet but on drawing board. I have a couple banksia pods and will use Bradford pear for base and lip. Just working out the sequence.  Will probably just drill for glass insert and not try to actually hollow. Still doing a little cleanup after our winter storm here in Texas so may be a couple days before back in shop. Copying from someone if not selling does not bother me. Thanks for the design idea David Datwyler.

Ralph, I fully expect it'll be on and off a few times before it's all done. Things are usually in motion on and off my bench as I don't have tons of room. You need to take something off before you have enough space put anything else on.

Daniel, that's kinda funky, I like it  Thumbs Up

Well a little update.
As I started to look over the used saw I just got, attempting to asses what's good, what's bad, what needs replacement, that sort of thing, it struck me, the @%#(!%#@! blade is in backwards. (why am I not surprised)
Now I don't ask too many questions other than does it run. I have no idea why he was letting it go or what his experience was. I can only guess it didn't cut too well.
A good cleaning and a new cord (as usual) and it'll be good for my less than fine woodworking projects.

I had a Skil worm drive a long time ago. Older model than yours as mine was all metal. Was stolen out of the back of my truck. Used it for cutting thick wet PT wood for seawalls and such. It was a serious workhorse.

This is still the heavier model before they went to the mag style (magnesium) which shaves off a couple of lbs

Didn't they do that for cutting thin sheet metal?  Like metal studs.

Good thought but I have no idea.
I would say that the blade in there was a bit too rough for that. IMO
24 tooth, even backwards can leave a rough stud, sheet metal, vinyl siding or fence or whatever. I've never done it but I know it's popular with some. I don't like the idea of the carbide tips coming off at high speed, which is much more likely running them backwards.
I'm a Freud guy, I use a Diablo Steel Demon blade for metal cutting, twice as many teeth as the blade in the saw and running in the proper direction.
No clues left on the saw, only dust, dirt and spiders, it looks to have sat for a while.

I've been trying to look it up but for some reason Skil thinks it should be a closely guarded secret.
I've read some of the things about date codes and so on but can't say with confidence, I may have to call Skil, they don't have an email support.

If no one else has anything they're working on, I'll jump in again.
I'm finally getting around to finishing up a drill press table I've been putting off.

My bench is empty and dust free, but I'm in the middle of moving.

Made a bunch more tops to give away. These little things are really popular. Fast and easy to make.

Turning and coloring takes 6~7 minutes. These are made from three pieces of 3/4" scrap stock glued together. The stock for these was about 2 3/8" wide and 14" long. After gluing they were cut into 9/16" thick end grain wafers then drilled for a 1/2" dowel.
