Where did I go wrong with my dye?  I didn't get the saturation that I was looking for. Sad Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

Hoiw dry was the wood when the dye was applied?  What was the sanding schedule?  How deeply does the dye color a kiln dry piece of wood that takes dye well?  What is the brand of dye, who makes it?  Alcohol based or water based dye?

In addition to Don's comments, I will add that you are adding color to a brown canvas, so the colors will be muted.  You might want to bleach the wood prior to coloring.  (Wood bleach, not household bleach).

I have dyed maple before.  I use a aniline dye in powder form that i mix with water.  Did you mix the dye yourself from powder?  It does not look concentrated enough and you should be applying alot more.

I used a liquid dye cut with alcohol....I followed the instructions....I used transtint dye.  I'm guessing it was not concentrated enough and I didn't do enough coats.

A different way to apply dye is with an airbrush.  I have had good success with using an inexpensive gravity fed brush from amazon.  This allows more control getting a uniform color.  Especially with things like bowls where you have a mix of end grain and side grain.  You need to put more dye on the side grain to get an even color.
