Harbor Freight 10X18

Lathe Stands

I have the HF 10x18 lathe and I was wondering what kind of stand other owners of this lathe have their machine mounted on. Are there manufactured stands available or is it best to build your own. If anyone has built a stand for this lathe, pictures and dimensions would be much appreciated. Also, what is the best chuck for the HF 10x18. I haven't turned anything but a piece of rectangular pine with a wood chisel just to give it a try until I buy some proper turning tools. Thanks in advance for any replies

That could determine whether to build or buy. Me, I'd build. Then I could get the height I wanted and add drawers under to hold the supplies such as chucks, gouges, sand paper. Glenn J.

I have built stands for my planer, jointer , drill press and sander. They are sturdy and solid and I have had no problems with them. I have my lathe sitting on the run out table for my table saw and the height seems to be ok. Are there any plans specifically for lathe stands that anyone knows about? My total woodworking experience consists of building bat boxes for myself and family.

Well, you have a small lathe. It can easily mount on any work bench. Depends on how much you are using it as well. 3/4 inch plywood might bounce a little bit, but a bench top made from a good piece of 2 by 12 would be pretty solid. Bolt it down. You do want to make sure it sits pretty level, which means you may want to shim one or more of the feet before you bolt it down.

That ultimate lathe stand is pretty fancy...

Posts: 206 Hull Georgia USA Gender: PM 2014	Re: Lathe Stands Reply #10 - Aug 18^th, 2022 at 8:01am I built a table for my PM 2014 using very heavy brackets, 4x4 posts for the legs, 2x4 cross braces and the top shelf, bottom shelf and back is 3\4 plywood. I installed leveling legs in the 4x4 posts. It works well for me.
